This case really isn't getting enough publicity. If you haven't been following it, it's a one-sentence rabbit-punch: Malaysia guarantees freedom of religion...unless the religion you've had the misfortune to be born into trumps that particular human right by declaring itself inescapable.

While I'm grousing, can I mention that I really despise, and will not brook, use of the word "Islamophobia"? It's not just that it's an aesthetically grotesque neologism. It's also hideously inapt in the way that it whispers that, with the usual regimen of fear-reduction techniques (exposure, empathy, etc.), your antipathy, too, can vanish in a poof of rationality and cultural understanding.

Thus: he, she, and it will henceforth be known as mislamists.

Those of us whose objections stem from our commitment to social equality, we shall be the ms.lamists.

Easy, yes?
