Weather update
The raindrops are so fat, it almost looks as though it’s snowing out.
All the reports talk about the rain “lashing” the city. This isn’t a cliché – well, ok, it is; but it’s also the best word for it. The winds are high, and blowing in every direction, and the palm trees look like fans at a glam metal concert flinging their hair about. The rain isn’t falling straight down, but behaving like marbles in a shaken bag. If you stand outside, even with an umbrella, you feel like you’re drowning. And, while we’re on terminology, “falling” isn’t the right word for it, either. The volume is so high, it’s like the drops are being pushed. I’ve only seen anything remotely comparable twice in my life, during my 11 years in Oregon, in two memorable and separate incidents. And now I’m seeing it daily.
